Old Town

Prague was initially an agglomeration of four towns – the royal towns of the Old Town and the Lesser Town, Hradčany and the New Town with a bold plan founded by Charles IV. Each of these towns had its own local government and town hall.

Things to see in the Old Town:
The astronomical clock is absolutely unique. Of course, it is not the only or the oldest one in Europe (although it is 600 years old). However, it is the only one that still has the original clock machine and is unique for the quantity of different astronomical data. Then there is the Church of Our Lady Before Týn, Ungelt, the Powder Tower as the only remainder of the Old Town fortification, Carolinum, the Estates Theatre….you can walk around the Old Town for several days and still discover something new new every time.

This is just some basic information but have you ever noticed the headless statues in the portal of the Church of Our Lady before Týn or the strange construction on the roof of the New Town Hall? It resembles a gallows-tree…Do you know which was the only pub in town where the famous Prague executioner could go? Do you know what Babylonian time is and how it was measured?
